Pughs Garden Centre

Pugh's Reaches New Heights!

This June, Cardiff native and Pugh’s patron, Katherine Parsons, traveled to Nepal. But this was no easy-going vacation — the determined Nottingham Trent student embarked on a mission to climb the iconic Mount Everest in aid of Childreach International — and when we heard about Katherine’s inspiring fundraising efforts, Pugh’s Garden Village simply had to be involved!

Katherine explains; “Childreach International is an amazing charity that helps vulnerable children in some of the poorest countries, and it’s already done some fantastic work to help children in Tanzania, Ghana and Nepal”.

“The trek to Everest’s 5500m high base camp lasted two weeks — 10 days to climb up, and just four to come back down!

“The most challenging aspect was definitely the altitude as it’s difficult to get used to the shortage of oxygen. On the whole I was alright and managed to stay fit but some people suffered sickness headaches as a result.”

Extremely pro-active in her fundraising efforts, Katherine organized an successful ‘lock-in’ at a venue near her university, as well as gaining the support of her favoured gardening destination;

Pugh’s Garden Village were very generous in their donation and it made such a big difference. I donned the signature Pugh’s T-shirt at the base camp to show my gratitude but I really can’t thank them enough.

“The trip was most definitely a once in a lifetime experience. It may have been one of the hardest things to — both mentally and physically — but it was certainly one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had.
