Job Opportunity: Finance Assistant

Location: Pugh’s Garden Village, Radyr

Hours: Full Time

Salary: from £26,000 to £27,000

The Finance Assistant supports the day-to-day financial operations of the garden centre, ensuring accurate processing of financial transactions and maintaining up-to-date financial records. Responsibilities include processing invoices and payments, bank reconciliations, and assisting with monthly reporting and budgeting tasks. The role requires attention to detail, strong numeracy skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a small administrative team.

Key Tasks

Daily Financial Transactions:

  • Process sales, purchase invoices, and receipts.
  • Record and reconcile cash, card, and online transactions.
  • Monitor and reconcile petty cash and till discrepancies.

Banking and Reconciliation:

  • Bank reconciliations for all accounts.
  • Prepare and process bank deposits.
  • Assist in monthly end closing and balance sheet reconciliations.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Maintain supplier and customer ledgers.
  • Chase outstanding payments and handle supplier queries.
  • Set up new vendor and customer accounts.

Payroll Assistance:

  • Support payroll processing by collecting and verifying timekeeping information.
  • Assist with holiday and absence tracking.

Budgeting & Reporting:

  • Help prepare monthly budget reports and forecasts.
  • Support with stock control reporting, especially for seasonal items like plants and garden products.

Compliance & Admin:

  • Maintain financial records for audit and compliance.
  • Support VAT returns and other regulatory filings.
  • File and archive documents appropriately.

Key Skills

  • AAT qualification (or equivalent) is essential.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Autoentry, Dext).
  • Good excel and data entry skills.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles.
  • Prior experience in retail or horticulture is a plus.
