Goods-In & Logistics Assistant, Permanent Contract (Wenvoe, Vale Of Glamorgan)

Salary: in line with the minimum wage: from £10.00 pr hr - £12.21 pr hr
Hours: Full time - 37.5 per week
Pugh’s Garden Village Wenvoe is looking for a proactive, hands-on, and reliable Goods-In & Logistics Assistant to support our busy horticultural and retail operation. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a varied, fast-paced environment at one of Wales’s best-loved garden centres.

As a key member of our logistics team, you will play a central role in ensuring the smooth flow of stock across the business. Your main responsibilities will include:
Stock Handling & Quality Checks
- Receiving and processing deliveries including plants, compost, tools, pots, garden furniture, and seasonal merchandise.
- Checking deliveries against paperwork for accuracy, reporting shortages, damages, or discrepancies.
- Assisting with the inspection of live plants and perishable goods to ensure health and quality.
- Recording stock accurately using our inventory management system.
Warehouse & Shop Floor Support
- Organising goods for storage or presentation on the shop floor in line with company standards.
- Assisting with stock replenishment and internal stock movements.
- Supporting safe unloading and handling of items using appropriate equipment, including forklifts, pallet trucks, and trolleys.
- Collaborating with goods-in teams across other Pugh’s sites to support stock transfers.
Safety & Site Maintenance
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised goods-in area and warehouse.
- Managing recycling and waste according to environmental procedures.
- Carrying out routine health & safety checks and reporting any hazards.
- Ensuring safe handling of chemicals, large items, and live plants in line with company policies.
What We’re Looking For
Essential qualities:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when checking and recording stock
- Confident IT user with experience in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and stock systems (training provided)
- Physically capable of lifting and moving heavy or bulky items
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round
- A positive, reliable team player with a proactive attitude
Desirable:
- Experience in logistics, warehousing, retail stock handling, or garden centre environments
- Forklift or pallet truck experience (training and certification can be provided for the right candidate)
