Horticultural Manager, Full Time, Permanent (Wenvoe, Vale of Glamorgan)

Job Title: Horticultural Manager

Location: Pugh's Garden Centre, Wenvoe, Vale Of Glamorgan, CF5 6AD
Hours: 38 hours 
Salary: £27,500 - £33,000pa

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead a team of horticultural staff and seasonal workers.
  • Organise rotas and assign daily tasks.
  • Provide training on plant care and customer service
  • Strong people management experience in employee relations

Plant Care & Management

  • Monitor the health and quality of plants.
  • Oversee watering, feeding, pruning, pest and disease control.
  • Ensure correct labelling and presentation of plants

Delivery & Stock Replenishment

  • Maintain high accuracy in stock levels and customer satisfaction.
  • Plan and coordinate the purchase of plants and horticultural products.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels and minimise waste/loss.
  • Liaise with growers and suppliers.

Customer Service & Sales

  • Provide expert advice to customers on plant selection, care, and landscaping.
  • Contribute to visual merchandising to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Handle customer complaints related to plant health or quality.

Compliance & Health and Safety

  • Ensure all operations meet health and safety regulations while following company Policies and Procedures
  • Keep up-to-date with industry best practices and plant health legislation.

Seasonal Planning & Displays

  • Plan and execute seasonal plant displays and promotional events.
  • Forecast trends in plant sales based on climate and consumer interest.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Horticulture, Plant Science, or related field (preferred)
  • Several years’ experience in a garden centre or nursery
  • Experience managing a team
  • PA1/PA6 pesticide certification (desirable)
