Job Title: Logistics and Outdoor Products Manager
Location: Pugh's Garden Centre, Wenvoe, Vale Of Glamorgan, CF5 6AD
Hours: 38 hours
Salary: from £27,500 - £33,000pa depending on experience
Hours of work: Between 08:30am – 17:00pm, Sunday – Saturday as per rota
Job Summary:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused individual to join our garden centre team, specialising in plant care, garden furniture, and lifestyle product sales. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards in our indoor garden department, supporting customers with expert advice, and ensuring our garden furniture and home & garden products are presented attractively and professionally.
This is a dual role position that will also encompass the following duties in addition to the above.
The efficient receipt, inspection, and storage of incoming deliveries including plants, gardening products, seasonal stock, and general retail items. You will ensure all goods are checked for quality and accuracy before being made available for sale on the shop floor or stored appropriately.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead a team of horticultural staff and seasonal workers.
- Organise rotas and assign daily tasks.
- Provide training on plant care and customer service
- Strong people management experience in employee relations
Customer Service & Sales
- Provide knowledgeable and friendly service to customers regarding indoor plants, plant care, pots, planters, and associated products.
- Advise customers on suitable garden furniture and decor items for their indoor and outdoor spaces.
- Work collaboratively with team members and management to ensure customer satisfaction and smooth store operations.
Compliance & Health and Safety
- Ensure all operations meet health and safety regulations while following company Policies and Procedures
- Follow all health & safety procedures, especially when handling chemicals or heavy goods.
Delivery & Stock Replenishment
- Receive deliveries of stock including live plants, compost, tools, pots, furniture, and seasonal goods.
- Check deliveries against supplier paperwork for accuracy and report discrepancies or damages.
- Inspect plants and perishable items for quality and health on arrival.
- Accurately log items into the stock system (manual or digital).
- Label, price, and prepare products for display or storage.
- Organise and maintain the goods-in area, keeping it clean and safe.
- Communicate with buyers, managers, and shop floor teams regarding stock arrivals or issues.
- Assist with internal stock movements, including restocking display areas.
- Support safe unloading practices using lifting equipment or trolleys where needed.
Seasonal Planning & Displays
- Assist in the merchandising, stocking, and presentation of outdoor products displays
- Keep up to date with seasonal trends and new products in the garden lifestyle sector.
- Participate in stock checks and ensure stock levels are maintained.
- Support promotional campaigns and themed displays.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the department.
Skills & Experience:
- Basic knowledge and/or enthusiasm for gardening (preferred)
- Interest or background in home and garden furniture/lifestyle products.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
- Ability to lift and move stock, and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Previous experience in retail stock handling, warehouse, or garden centre environment preferred.
- Understanding of plant care or interest in horticulture is a strong advantage.
- Good attention to detail and quality control.
- Physically fit – able to lift and move heavy goods safely.
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
- Basic computer skills for logging stock (training provided).
- Team player with a positive, proactive attitude.
- Forklift or pallet truck experience is helpful (but not essential).
Desirable Qualities:
- A creative eye for merchandising and visual displays.
- Willingness to learn and develop product knowledge.
- Team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
