Garden Centre Housekeeper, Part Time, Permanent (Radyr, Cardiff)

Job Title: Housekeeper

Location: Pugh's Garden Village, Tynant Road, Cardiff, CF15 8LB

Hours: 12 hours a week, inc. every other weekend.

Rate of Pay: £12.21 per hour. Paid monthly salary

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Housekeeper to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and presentation of our Garden Centre indoor and outdoor areas. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, the ability to work independently, and a proactive attitude in supporting a welcoming and tidy environment for our customers and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clean and sanitise customer areas, including restrooms, staff rooms, offices, and café
• Sweep, mop, and maintain indoor flooring and outdoor pathways
• Collect and dispose of litter and organic debris from across the premises.
• Restock cleaning and hygiene supplies in staff and customer facilities.
• Clean glass doors, windows, and display units.
• Assist in setting up and tidying areas before and after events or peak trading periods.
• Safely use cleaning tools and chemicals in accordance with health and safety standards.
• Identify and report maintenance or safety issues promptly.

Working Conditions:

Work Environment: Combination of indoor and outdoor environments including greenhouses, retail spaces, and public restrooms.

Exposure: Regular exposure to weather conditions (rain, sun, wind), dirt, dust, and plant materials.

Physical Demands: Standing and walking for long periods, lifting to 30 lbs, bending, reaching, and using cleaning equipment.

Chemical Use: Routine handling of cleaning agents and disinfectants (with appropriate PPE provided).

Schedule: Includes weekdays, weekends, and public holidays. Early morning or evening shifts may be required depending on business needs.

Risk Factors: Slippery surfaces, uneven outdoor ground, exposure to pests/insects, and contact with mild garden-related chemicals.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Good physical stamina and attention to detail.
• Basic understanding of cleaning products and safety procedures.
• Friendly and professional attitude toward staff and customers.
